toasted coconut & salted caramel rugelach

LR Sample Edit-3641

Question: Have you ever logged onto Facebook, skimmed through your News Feed, and then proceeded to spend the next 15-20 minutes looking at/ through your own page? (I’m talking pictures, old posts, the works.)

Welp, that sounded overly narcissistic.

For those of you who answered “no,” well, I guess I already lost ya. I guess you’re also a million times better at using your time productively. For those of you who answered “yes”… wait, did anyone else answer yes? Probably not – I’m just a weirdo, sometimes. Don’t mind me.

sweets for sweeties

DSC_1672

It’s almost February 14th.  You know what that means, right?

It means that it’s time to bust out the flour, the sugar, the butter, the chocolate.  It’s time to use a little elbow grease, a little patience.

It’s time to bake something sweet for your sweetie – your valentine.

Whether your valentine is your spouse, your mom, your sister, your friend – heck, even your dog ( Okay . . . maybe not your dog.  Chocolate and canines do not mix.), I hope you’ll take the time to show someone you care by baking something special.  After all, cooking or baking for someone shows a lot more thought than buying the usual heart-shaped box of chocolates at your local CVS.

Trust me on this one.

I thought I’d offer some ideas and inspiration of what to make – my Valentine’s Day round-up of recipes, if you will.

Why not start Valentine’s Day off with a healthy breakfast?  My Maple Pecan Granola with Cinnamon Sugar Sprinkle is delicious and super satisfying.  Serve with strawberries and yogurt – yum!

More of a pancake person?  These Lemon-Scented German Pancakes are easy, light, and sophisticated.

Now that breakfast is covered, let’s get to what we’re all really here for . . . dessert!

Blackberry Crostata combines a buttery crust with a fresh filling that is bursting with berry flavor.  Rustic and charming!

Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream is the perfect pink dessert for Valentine’s Day!  Drizzle with chocolate sauce for a new twist on the classic chocolate-covered strawberry!

Vanilla Bean Semifreddo with Fresh Raspberry Sauce is an ideal elegant dessert.  Light and creamy, this 5-ingredient dish is sure to impress your valentine!

Of course, you can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day without chocolate!

Chocolate Shortbread Fingers are soft, tender, and full of chocolate and cinnamon flavor.  Such a great cookie!

Mexican Hot Chocolate Bark is slightly spicy from a hint of cayenne and a dash of cinnamon, and finished with a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds and sea salt.  So addicting!

Chocolate Pot de Creme with Caramel Pretzel Crunch is the ultimate chocolate indulgence.

I certainly hope I’ve helped you find something sweet to make for your sweetie!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

espresso molasses cookies

Okay, so maybe I’m a bit late on the holiday cookie bandwagon.  But how can you say no to a warm, chewy molasses cookie?

Exactly, you can’t.

chocolate shortbread fingers

DSC_1238

Over the past five or so months, I have learned an abundance about blogging.  Food blogging, in particular.  Shall I share a brief list with you?  Why not!

1.) As a new blogger, the majority of your readers are friends or family.  Really, this is not all that surprising.

2.) Blogging is addicting.  Fact.

3.) Your computer hard-drive becomes overloaded with pictures.

4.) The absurd quantity of pictures seems even more absurd when you consider the fact that the pictures are of food . . . and only food.

5.) Speaking of pictures, bigger isn’t always better.  I doubt you want to spend an hour waiting for all the pictures on a single blog post to load.  I sure don’t!

6.) Taste Spotting is very critical when accepting submissions.

7.) Dessert Stalking is not.

8.) Post titles should be straight-forward (unlike this list is turning out to be).

9.) There’s a lot of butter involved.  It’s dangerous.

10.) Exercise is recommended.

undying love: chocolate chip cookies

I woke up this morning feeling rather optimistic.

I thought that I was going to get a lot of work done today – tackle the pile of assignments that has been waiting for me.  Make a dent.  Feel productive.

But that didn’t happen.  Tomorrow is looking pretty good for yet another feeble attempt.

I was productive in one sense: I baked.  Chocolate chip cookies to be exact.

I think I was trying to convince myself that I could bypass my final year of high school and still be successful solely because of my ability to make a decent batch of cookies.

If only the world worked that way.  Damn.

I don’t know what it is about the classic chocolate chip cookie that leaves me spellbound everytime I take a bite of one.  Maybe it’s because they’re so simple.  Maybe it’s because they’re so unpretentious.  And maybe it’s because they’re just so delicious.
